This is a blog where I tell you (whoever is viewing this) about my life in anonymous terms. What I write will be what I'm thinking and what I never really say. Someone needs to know my thoughts, I think. Maybe not. Anyway, I hope you find my blog entertaining, interesting, and inspiring. Or something of that sort.

Dress to Skirt Refashion

Made a dress into a skirt!

I absolutely love this dress from American Eagle. I got it quite a few years ago, the top is now uncomfortable and I barely wore it because of that.
So, I though that it would be a good idea to make it into a skirt!
It was really simple.
The skirt was already sown together at the top, which helped keep the pleats in place.
I basically had to take a seam ripper and take apart the top from the skirt.

The diamond on the front was a problem, but I just ended up folding it over so that it would fit the height of the rest of the skirt.

The main thing I had to make was this band once I had taken the top part off.
I used fabric from the top in order to make the band.
Reluctantly, I had enough.

In order to make the band, I took my strip of fabric that I got from the top and folded it on either side and then sewed it twice so that it would match the bottom hem

Bottom hem:

I didn't use any elastic for the band at the top, but you would probably be able to if you wanted to.
(I know these are horrible instructions but if anyone reads this I'm just letting you know the available options and what I did).
It works perfectly fine without elastic, it's just a little bit harder to get on.
You can always add a zipper
(I'm not that fancy though)

I was lucky, and the skirt already came with pockets, which is just amazing.
Who wouldn't want pockets!?

THE FINISHED PRODUCT!

So happy how it turned out!
It was actually successful!
Could be worn beautifully with a wonderful white shirt
Can't wait to wear it out and about!

I hope this gave you some sort of inspiration for refashions!
Don't be afraid of the seam ripper! It's your friend!

Can't wait to do more refashions and get even better at sewing!
